* Education (must have one of the following)
* CDA
* High School Diploma or GED and 30 credits from an accredited college or university in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Special Education, Elementary Education or Human Services field
* High School Diploma or GED and 600 or more hours of secondary training from DHS approved school
* High School Diploma or GED and 15 credits from an accredited college or university in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Special Education, Elementary Education or Human Services field and 1 year of experience with children
* High School Diploma or GED and completion of an approved post-secondary training curriculum
* High School Diploma or GED and 2 years of experience with children
* Personal
* Interest in children and willingness to learn
* References and recommendations
* Able to relate well to children and adults
* Current health appraisal
* Current Clearances
Basic Function
* The Assistant teacher will work with and support the lead teacher in all aspects of center activities to ensure the learning, health, safety and general well-being of the children in their care.
Performance Responsibilities
* Should include but not limited to:
* Assisting in the implementation of the daily activities under the guidance of the lead teacher
* Helping to supervise the children during all activities
* Talking and actively playing with the children at appropriate times
* Leading the group when the teacher is not present
* Setting up breakfast, lunch and snack
* Cleaning and sanitizing the tables after meals
* Helping to clean up and keep the classroom tidy and safe environment
* Helping children with their hygiene (hand washing, toileting, diapering, etc.
)
* Ensuring the safety of the children at all times
* Maintaining the playground and/or pavilion as needed
* Treating each child with dignity and respect
* Maintaining discipline by following center policies
* Maintaining a positive relationship with the parents through effective communication
* Attending mandatory staff meetings
* Cooperating with parents, staff and other adults to ensure the children’s needs are met
* Attending mandatory trainings and certifications
Physical Demands
* Medium lifting, up to 50 pounds
* Activity including but not limited to: climbing, balancing, kneeling, stooping, crawling, sitting and standing
* Activity including but not limited to: reaching, handling and feeling
Organizational Responsibilities
* The Assistant reports to the Lead teacher and/or the Ed Director as well as PreK Counts Coordinator
