Elementary and Middle School Orchestra Teacher (Grades 4 through 8) - Part-time

Music is brought to the fore through the school’s general music, orchestral and choral programs for which the school is known.
SWS seeks a dynamic orchestra teacher to work as part of a collaborative faculty with other Music and Grades teachers educating students from Grades 4 to 8 starting this January 2024.
The ideal applicant will be an experienced Orchestra teacher who is able to work with elementary and middle school students of varying learning styles and skill levels.
The successful candidate will value the budding artists as much as the art itself being dedicated to nurturing the musical and personal potential of each child.
Skills for building enduring and cohesive relationships with parents and colleagues including excellent verbal and written communication skills, cultural competence, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of professional engagement is required.
Responsibilities include:
● Select & prepare music for Winter Concert, Spring Concert, May Day festival and 8th Grade graduation.
● Lead rehearsals designed to expand on and support a student’s overall musical education.
● Lead two orchestras (5th Grade and Middle School) twice weekly, & Fourth Grade
Beginning Orchestra once weekly (2nd semester only)
● Regular department meetings, class assessments and a year-end student report.
Qualified applicants will need to be/have:
● A Bachelor’s degree in Music or Music Education with an emphasis in Orchestra or a related field is required, or commensurate professional experience.
Class teaching experience preferred.
● Sound knowledge of playing violin, viola, cello and bass.
● An ability to work with students from a broad range of backgrounds
● Able to differentiate instruction based on the needs of the students
● Organized with excellent verbal and written communication skills
● A professional presentation and willingness to work with Waldorf pedagogy.
